When you proceed to install Windows 7 on a clean hard disk, at the time of creating new partition, Windows 7 installation would create a 100MB or 200MB system reserved and hidden partition to store certain Windows restoration features.
To some advance users, the extra partition is waste of system resources and to some its also matter of concern for a place to hide malware.
Windows 7 installation process doesn’t offer us any easy way to avoid this action, the commonly used work around for the process is to install Windows 7 on a previously partitioned hard disk thus not doing the partition process from Windows 7 installation process.
How to avoid / what is the work around for the 100MB or 200MB system reserved partition created at the time of Windows 7 installation ?
One easy work around would be create a small partition of 50MB and then extend it to your desired system drive size. For example, if you want your Windows installation partition to be 30GB, then do directly create a 30GB partition, rather create a 50MB partition and then extend that 50MB to 30GB. This action would force Windows 7 installation process to avoid creating the extra 100MB or 200MB system reserved partition.
Step 1
Create a small 50MB partition from the unallocated disc.
Step 2
Increase that small 50MB partition to your desired size needed for your installation drive.
Now you may proceed towards installation of Windows 7 as installation process wont create that unwanted 100MB or 200MB system reserved and hidden partition.
Do you know any better way ?
If you know any other easier or better way to perform this action, then please do share the information with us by leaving us a comment.

Microsoft has launched a new advertisement campaign against Apple MAC. Aiming towards the upcoming summer sessions, this campaign offers an in-depth comparison of a MAC (all the range) with similar PC counterparts to show the price and configuration difference and available options on the PC platform.
Starting from 11″ MacBook Air to the highest end 27″ iMAC, every single MAC has been put up in comparison with their respective PC counterparts. It seems Microsoft is mainly concentrating on the price factor and choice of different hardware vendor in terms of PC building.
- Contemporary MAC machines cost double the price of PC, where as PC bags more powerful hardware
- With MAC, you have just Apple as hardware provider, where as with PC, you have multiple renowned hardware vendors to chose from.
